For Morocco & Finland: Provides L$17,000 For Preparation

LTFF Names Athletes

As preparation intensifies for the Morocco and Finland competitions, the Liberia Track and Field Federation (LTFF) have named 16 track athletes for the two prestigious competitions.

Addressing a news conference yesterday at the Camp Johnson Road Office, the President of the LTFF, Henry Williams said 5 athletes have been selected for the World Youth Championship in Morocco and 11 for the World Senior Championship in Finland.

Those selected, according to him, include 100/200meters female athletes Alice Tiklo and Dyrlen Allen. Female 400meters Albertha Williams, Male 1500meters athlete Timothy Kollie and Korkolo Roberts of the 100/200meters event are those for the Youth Championship in Morocco

Athletes for the Senior Championship in Finland were Sultus Tucker, Kou Luogan and Oneil Wright all of the United States of America.

Other include Ephraim Fiayah, Anthony whea, Charles Shaw and Cynthia Bee. Others are Henry Tuekur, Sawola Boakai, Britt Karblee, Tennie Sahwo and Sawala Boaker.

The LTFF president also said a budget of US$82,095 has been submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to him, out of the budget, US$3, 290, 00 will go to training, US$25,055 for the Youth games in Morocco and US$53,755 was reserved for the senior games in Finland.

He noted, “While it is true government is doing everything possible to approve the budgets for the pending games, he would personally prove LD$17,000 to begin the month long training for the track athletes.”

Commenting further, the LTFF boss said the Federation is yet to receive annual grant from the international body, the IAAF, and as such they were finding it difficult to carry on the smooth operation of the federation.

He also told journalists that US-based track athlete, Christopher J. Sayeh has been appointed as the new Liaison to coordinate the activities of athletes aboard.

In a related development, the President of the Liberia Track and Field Federation Coaches Association (LTFFCA) Winston Cole is expected to leave the country this Saturday for Nairobi, Kenya.

He is to attend the Administrative Seminar of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAFF) for English speaking countries in Africa. His trip is being sponsored by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).

The move by the LTFF boss has been welcomed by many Liberians who described it as “great and encouraging” for the development of athletics in the country.

Meanwhile, reports gathered say the 16 selected athletes have already begun preparations at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynersville in City.
