One of Liberia’s enterprising long distant
tracks and field athletes may not
participate in this year World Junior
Championship in Tunisia. Making the
disclosure to our sports desk on Tuesday
from the United States, the chief sponsor of
the athletes Dr. Grace Dinkins said Bill
Roger has sustained a serious injury.
According to her, athlete Roger sustained
the injury during his training section, in
pre-preparation for this year World Junior
Championship in Tunisia.
According to her such injury could likely
rule him out of the competition, but was
confident that the athlete will recover as
soon as possible. The promising Liberian
long distant athlete is one of the country
best that many have admired for his splendid
performance.
Bill Roger came into limelight in the 90th
annual Olympic Day Run organized by the
Liberia National Olympic committee (LNOC),
in which he came as the first winner.
Since then Bill has been doing well until
he was spotted by the former Liberia track
star and medical doctor in the United States
Dr. Grace Dinkins. Dr. Dinkins began tapping
his talent when she sponsored a six months
training in Nairobi, Kenya.
The young resourceful track athlete made
his name when he had good day in Benin in
the West African Junior Championship in
which he brought two medals for the country.
The performance of the athlete was highly
embraced by many Liberians including the
then LONC President Madam Deborah Williams.
Meanwhile, athletes of Liberty Athletic
Club (LAC) have expressed regret over the
injury of their colleague. They lamented
that such injury at this time was
discouraging for their colleague in quest to
keep his flag of the country at high level.
They further urged the athlete to remain
focused and keep hope in his quest to begin
a professional track and field athlete. |
