THE TOWNSHIP OF CROZIERVILLE |
Careysburg Statutory District |
Montserrado County, Republic of Liberia |
The following message goes out to all sons, daughters and friends of the Township of Crozierville, Liberia in the Diaspora.
About two years ago, a small group of concerned citizens, along with the Commissioner of the township of Crozierville in Liberia began meeting in Monrovia to discuss what needed to be done to begin the process of re-vitalizing and re-building this historic township, which lies just 15 miles outside Monrovia in Careysburg Statutory District of Montserrado County.
During those initial meetings a blueprint for a development association and identified community development projects began to be conceptualized. For a variety of reasons, discussions were slow, but steady and promising. But during the beginning of 2008, citizens (residents and non-residents) really became galvanized towards these efforts when there were talks about annexing the township, a move that would truly destroy the township’s historic landmarks and geography. Towards this end, and with enormous vim and vitality, Citizens of the township of Crozierville made the decision to:
- Use the 143rd anniversary of Crozierville to promote interest in the township from citizens both within Liberia and in the Diaspora.
- Take advantage of this opportunity to raise funds for the development of the township, as mentioned in the letter attached below.
- Launch the Development Association of Crozierville (DAC).
The following highlights some of the activities that are being planned for the 143rd Anniversary Program of the Township of Crozierville:
- Thanksgiving service at Reeves Memorial United Methodist Church.
- Sports and Recreation day at the Antoinette Tubman Community School grounds.
- Football (soccer) tournament amongst teams from the community as well as a kickball tournament for the female teams.
- Additional games like Checkers, Monopoly, Chess, Ludo, etc.
- Food for sale.
- An old-timers soccer match between old-timers who reside in Crozierville and those who reside in Monrovia.
- Wreath-laying at the township monument on the Anniversary Day, followed by a march through the township to the Antoinette Tubman Community School where the program will continue.
- Orator of the day – Son of Crozierville, Ambassador T. Earnest Eastman
- Performances at the program by Choirs from churches in the township.
- The fund-raising drives and launching of DAC will be incorporated into the anniversary program.
